Liposuction is the most common cosmetic procedure performed today, and our practice has had high demand for "no down time" liposuction. Many patients have small areas of fat on the waistline, abdomen, arms and thighs that they have found to be resistant to diet and exercise. Many of these patients lead hectic lifestyles and cannot take time off for long periods of recovery, and are also concerned about the effects of general anesthesia. The meticulous use of tumescent anesthesia works well for a relatively pain free procedure with the majority of patients returning to work the next day. We have even had patients who have gone shopping following their procedure.

 

The technique is based on the use of a small needle used to infuse local anesthetic beneath the skin. This plumps up the fat enabling an easy removal with a power-assisted liposuction device. The patients have likened this feeling to a deep tissue massage.

 

Small amounts of fluid will leak from the needle sites over the next 24 to 48 hours, which is not a concern to most patients. There is very little bruising and a surgical compression garment is worn continuously for two weeks to improve contour and minimize swelling. The great thing about this tumescent technique is your liposuction can be staged, addressing different areas of concern based on your schedule.

 

Only the healthiest of patients are chosen for this procedure. Following this procedure there is usually minimal requirement for pain medication, so patients are able to drive and resume their normal activities quite readily.
